Meal
OVERVIEW
So, there we were, strolling through New York City with our husbands, getting hungry, and on the hunt for a gluten-free lunch spot. We typed in “gluten-free near me” and—bam!—this little hidden gem called Locanut popped up just a few blocks away. The excitement grew as we walked in and found a clean, allergy-friendly oasis! The food was fantastic. I mean, the fresh greens, crisp veggies, and homemade dressings were like a perfectly balanced symphony of flavors. And guess what? Many menu items were pre-boxed in clean containers, ready for a quick grab-and-go!
SUGGESTIONS
If you’re navigating food allergies, Locanut is a fantastic spot that truly gets it. Great food, great service, and diverse menu crafter with clean, fresh, organic, wild, grass-fed, and local ingredients. They also tailor meals for dietary restrictions or preferences.
MENU
• Allergy-friendly menu covering the top 11 allergens, including nuts, dairy, wheat, and more.
• Symbols galore! They had GF for gluten-free, V for vegan, and so on. The online menu was even more detailed, with Whole 30 notations, which is fantastic for meal prep.
• While the dressings and sauces were labeled vegan, I had to ask a few extra questions because some of the items I knew were most likely dairy free, but I had to ask to be sure. (Pro tip: Always ask, even when things seem clear.)
• They were super accommodating with substitutions—I swapped out spinach for kale (because oxalates and I don’t mix) with no fuss.
• The variety? Huge! Bowls, sandwiches, wraps, snacks, desserts—you name it, they’ve got it.
TABLE
• Clean tables, individual plates—everything felt safe and sanitary.
• No fryers, so no worries about gluten or soy contamination.
• Need condiments? Just ask. I got more dressing for my salad, and since it’s all made in-house and had already spoken in depth about the ingredients, I felt confident it was safe.
SERVICE
• The staff was awesome. Though it’s more of a counter-service setup, they knew their stuff and answered all my ingredient questions without batting an eye.
• I appreciated that the lady behind the counter was never annoyed by my questions (we allergy people can ask a lot!). She even double-checked with the kitchen when necessary, which put my mind at ease.
