Tennessee

I recently traveled with my husband and our daughters to Nashville, TN to experience the downtown Nashville scene. While we were there we enjoyed live music, restaurants, rooftops, fine dining, the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, and guitar stores. We also visited the sophisticated area known as The Gulch where we enjoyed a trendy coffee shop called Milk & Honey, upscale shopping and dining. Below are some of the dining destinations and how we would rate them.

Over-all Experience

We can't say enough great things about this coffee & cafe restaurant! We really felt that this restaurant does it right! The waiter greeted us and asked if anyone at the table had any allergy concerns. The online and printed menu versions were very well-marked and easy to follow for drinks and food. They had many gluten and tree-nut-free specialty breads, muffins, and food options that were beyond what would have been expected. They were super friendly and willing to help us have a great experience. (Their bread was a must-try! I have never had 2" thick gluten free fire-roasted bread before!)

Suggestions

No suggestions, but we would love to know how you made that wonderful large bread that is gluten free and tree nut free - the best I have ever had!

Over-all Experience

This was a fun stop as well as very allergy friendly. They had a great allergy-marked menu online and a printed version that offered gluten-free bun and bread substitutions. They also had gluten free cider beers on tap. Although we didn’t eat here, we really felt like they had a lot to offer and were prepared to serve diners with allergies. I would definitely go back and feel safe ordering off the menu.

Over-all Experience

We loved this restaurant! The restaurant and table were clean and had condiments on the table. The menus did not have allergies marked but the staff seemed knowledgeable and noted our allergies and suggested many options and alternatives for us to choose from. None of us had any negative reactions from eating here.

Suggestions

It would be very simple to upgrade the menu to include allergy notations.

Over-all Experience

A very cute coffee shop in a trendy area, but we didn't feel that this was a good safe stop if you had a tree nut allergy to order from the coffee counter bar. The staff didn't seem to safely consider tree nut free as their problem. They weren't nice in their delivery of that detail either. My daughter did go back to eat at the restaurant where she said she had a positive experience and that the menu had allergy items marked.

Suggestions

The staff at this restaurant felt like there were no safe options for diners with our allergies because they didn’t have a plan in place and they didn’t seem willing to accommodate.

Over-all Experience

The restaurant and table were clean. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful about allergies, she has food allergies as well and made that connection with us. There were allergy food options for dinner but nothing was marked on the menu or website so we had to rely on the staff's knowledge. There were no dessert options available if you had gluten, nut, or dairy allergy.

Suggestions

It would be very simple to upgrade the menu to include allergy notations and a dairy allergy dessert option. One of our family members that had the soy allergy did have minor negative reactions.

Over-all Experience

The restaurant and table were clean. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful about allergies and offered substitutions and was willing to double check. When the food was delivered they noted our allergies as they presented the plate before us. *I learned about soy cross-contamination in the fryer because the waiter double-checked that for us since we had a soy allergy. The things that would count against their star rating would be that their menu was not marked for allergies at all, but all the staff seemed very knowledgeable and willing to help with simple substitutions. There were no dessert options if you had a dairy allergy.

Suggestions

It would be very simple to upgrade the menu to include allergy notations and a dairy allergy dessert option.
